Dormant Oil Spay for your Trees
If you've been involved with your landscape for any period of time, you've probably heard of dormant oil, but may not have understood exactly what is meant by this.
Dormant oil is a treatment used on woody plants during the dormant season, that is when they are not actively growing. During the winter months many insects such as aphids, scale, mealybugs, and mites often go unnoticed as they overwinter on plants. But as soon as temperatures rise and leaves begin to emerge, these insects will strike and explode in population. Also, if you have noticed galls on your plants, this treatment will kill some overwintering gall-forming insects as well. By treating with dormant oil before active growth begins, we can control these insects and give your plants a fresh start this spring.
The treatment method used for a particular insect or disease problem will depend on the species involved, the extent of the problem, and a variety of other factors specific to your particular situation and local regulations. We will inform you of what is available including various treatment options.
