Despite how it looks, <\/span>nutsedge isn\u2019t grass\u2014it\u2019s a sedge.<\/b><\/p>\n

That matters. Because it\u2019s a completely different plant type, <\/span>standard weed control won\u2019t work.<\/b> Most over-the-counter sprays are designed for broadleaf weeds or grassy weeds, not sedges.<\/span><\/p>\n

One simple way to tell what you’re dealing with is to <\/span>pull one up and feel the base. Nutsedge has a triangular stem<\/b>, not round like grass. If it rolls like a prism in your fingers, that\u2019s your weed!<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Nutsedge Is So Hard to Get Rid Of<\/b><\/h2>\n

Nutsedge spreads in <\/span>three persistent ways<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Seeds<\/b> \u2013 Carried by wind or rain, they germinate quickly in warm, moist conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Rhizomes<\/b> \u2013 Underground stems that spread sideways and shoot up new plants.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Tubers (Nutlets)<\/b> \u2013 These underground \u201cenergy pods\u201d can lie dormant for years and regrow even after you think you\u2019ve removed the plant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Unfortunately, even if you pull it up, those nutlets are still lurking beneath the surface, ready to sprout again.<\/span><\/p>\n
